Women's Outdoor Network
Posting Policy for WONTalk
We here at the WON board of directors have gotten questions recently about posting to our e-mail list, WON Talk, and some members have expressed concern about the subject of the e-mails they have been receiving. So, for clarification, here's our posting policy, and some tips:
Our e-mail list was designed to support our organization's mission---we are dedicated to providing women in and around Atlanta social opportunities, through trips for outdoor activities and social events. So WON Talk should be used for those purposes.
Postings such as "I'm going hiking at Stone Mountain Sunday, anyone want to join me?" or, "who's up for watching the L Word at the Red Chair?" are fine. So are questions like "Does anyone know a good bike shop?" We also welcome limited postings of community events for non-profit purposes, like the Fourth Tuesday Golf Tournament, or ALCI's Garden Party, even if you are not attending or leading a trip. There may be other WON members who wish to attend on their own, or to organize a trip. Political posting/comments are acceptable if they are environmentally related (we are after all the Women's Outdoor Network) but general political issues can be posted elsewhere to a more appropriate list. If you have or need a kayak, bike, or other outdoor equipment, our board is a good place to post. If you are selling a bed, car, or ex-girlfriend's belongings for $1, it's not. Any other posting for the purpose of solicitation is prohibited. And please, be aware that cross posting (i.e. posting the same information to WON talk, ZAMI's list, Fourth Tuesday's message board, etc.) may annoy some recipients. Many of us are subscribed to multiple lists, and will see your message three or four times. We reserve the right to reject such multiple postings.
So here's some help for posting, if what you have isn't WON material:
If you need a job, roommate, or have items to sell, try the Fourth Tuesday yahoo group. Fourth Tuesday has more than 500 members on their list. The purpose of the group is to "exchange information about community events, Fourth Tuesday events, employment opportunities, your business, employment sought, etc." So this is a good place for political posts, the meaning of Lesbian life in Atlanta posts, real estate available, or what have you. You can find them at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fourthtuesdayatlanta
Queer Atlanta covers all sorts of Atlanta Gay and Lesbian life. they're at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/QueerAtlanta
Lost pets, available pets, or general pet info can be e-mailed to pet911@photophetish.com and it will be sent to the appropriate list.
We want everyone to connect through e-mail lists, and making sure that we have appropriate postings is one way to achieve that goal. If you have any questions about posting to WON talk, please contact any of our board members. E-mail addresses for us are at http://www.wonatlanta.com/board.html
Thanks for your support!
